MGG celebrates its 10th anniversary of participation at the IERC in Salzburg

Mittwoch, 16. Januar 2019 bis Freitag, 18. Januar 2019

The 18th International Electronics Recycling Congress IERC 2019 will take place in Salzburg on January 16 – 18, 2019. It is one of the key conferences bringing the E-Waste Recycling industry together in the wonderful city of Salzburg.

Ever since the IERC conferences have taken place in Salzburg, the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group was present at this conference not only as a sponsor, but also with a booth and…..delivering a technical tour to the Müller Guttenbrunn Group companies MGG Metrec, MGG Metran and MGG Polymers (formerly MBA Polymers Austria), where the conference visitors can have a look at the innovative WEEE recycling processes that were developed at MGG.

Both Mike Biddle – the founder of MBA Polymers – and Christian Müller-Guttenbrunn – CEO of MGG – received the Honorary ICM Award.

It is expected that also this year some 500 participants from international producers, recyclers, equipment manufacturers, recycling associations, standardization bodies, NGOs and legislators will take part in this version of the conference.

Müller-Guttenbrunn will also deliver a speech about the legal challenges that the WEEE plastic recycling is currently facing. The EU is currently discussing a threshold of a frequently used Brominated Flame Retardant for which proposals have been formulated that would place the WEEE plastic recycling at risk. A similar discussion is taking place at the level of the UN Basel Convention. MGG is asking for a balanced and intelligent approach between the objectives of a Circular Economy – after all recycling plastics saves huge amounts of energy and CO2 emissions – and the objectives of a non-toxic world. The plastics that have been used in households for decades cannot possibly be hazardous at much lower concentrations.

Arthur Schwesig of MGG Polymers will deliver a presentation about the integration of life cycle thinking into product design and will present a case of the use of Post-Consumer WEEE Plastics into new products. These two presentations are integrated in one block with the title: „E-Plastics – Challenges & Opportunities“. An interesting confrontation of two completely different approaches.
