Müller-Guttenbrunn named Austrian National Champion

The Müller-Guttenbrunn Group has been named a National Champion in the Category Environment and Sustainability for Austria in the “European Business Awards”.

The Awards, now in its 10th year, is supported by business leaders, academics and political representatives from across Europe, and this year engaged with over 33,000 businesses from 34 countries.

The evaluation criteria include the core EBA values of innovation, ethics and success and Müller-Guttenbrunn will now go through to the second stage of the competition by representing the Austrian flag in the international voting.

“This cross-sector competition with so many submissions is really something special and therefore we are really proud that we can represent Austria as National Champion in the next international phase of the European Business Award”, says Managing Director Christian Müller-Guttenbrunn.

The Müller-Guttenbrunn group had to prevail against tough competition.  The independent jury evaluated the business activities of each company according to social, cultural, economic and environmental considerations.

The submission of recycling specialist Müller-Guttenbrunn from Amstetten could fully convince the jury in all Points.

Continous innovations in the recycling of electronics

The Müller-Guttenbrunn entry particularly focused attention to the achievements in the recycling of Electronic Waste within the three sub-companies Metall Recycling Mü-Gu, Metran and MBA Polymers. Innovations such as the patented Smasher technology or the newly developed EVA shredder, the huge improvements in the separation processes of non-ferrous metals and technical plastics are not only important for the economic success of the company, but also for environmental protection. With these new developments and investments in the existing installations, the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group can nowadays recover 75 percent of the E-waste as secondary raw materials with an overall recovery rate of as much as 95 percent.  With all recycling activities, the company group contributes to CO2 emission saving of one million metric tons per year.

The jury also assessed other points such as the loyalty or the innovation-friendly working environment as very positive.

In the second round of the European Business Awards, the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group not only has to convince a jury; in a public video voting on EBA site everyone can vote then. The company hopes for a lot of support to bring the almost impossible within reach: a place in the Final Gala next year.
